Lesson Series Level 1

Advanced Players

The Harmonica Masterclass Lesson Series, written by David Barrett, is a comprehensive blues harmonica instruction course that will take you from your advanced level to as far as you wish to go.  For some players the goal is to play on stage with a band, for others it’s to just play the harmonica for their own enjoyment.  Whichever your goal, we can take you there.

We highly recommend all players that would call themselves advanced to go through the Level 2 series of study material first.  Because harmonica players primarily learn by ear, they miss many of the important techniques that are taught in both Level 1 and Level 2 material.  Most players that call themselves advanced are perfect for Level 2.

If you are truly an advanced player, then Level 3 is where you need to be, with some look into Level 2 books as well.  First focus on position and phrasing study.  Start with Exploring 2^nd Position to firm up your skills in our most common position and then move onto Exploring 3^rd Position to start your journey into one of the favorite positions of professional players.  This book/CD will also help you tremendously in your advanced tongue blocking skills.  Exploring 1^st Position is your last position study before moving onto the chromatic harmonica in Basic Blues Chromatic.

Use Scales, Patterns and Bending Exercises #2 to develop your scale and arpeggio skills, an area very important to strong movement on the harmonica.  Blues Harmonica Jam Tracks & Soloing Concepts #3 will help you to play with other instruments in a truly professional setting.  Look at the entire Building Harmonica Technique Video Series (four in all) to cover all of the most important techniques that books and CDs can’t cover alone.

Absolutely.  We specialize in helping advanced players reach the height of instrument and performance skills.  The Harmonica Masterclass Workshops entail three days of intensive study with highly trained instructors and guest artists within the Harmonica Masterclass System.  Improvising, groove, form, performance and many other subjects are paramount in your studies to becoming a great player. 

Fly-In Lessons
